Marilyn and Joe DiMaggio were introduced by a mutual friend and went on a date together in a popular New York restaurant. Marilyn later said of the date “I expected a flashy New York sports type, and instead I met this reserved guy who didn’t make a pass at me right away. He treated me like something special”. On the date, Marilyn is said to have eaten anchovies om pimento, spaghetti al dente and scallopini of veal. The couple went on to elope on January 14th 1954 and divorced nine months. Although Marilyn went on to marry Arthur Miller many people believe Joe was the love of her life as he was someone she stayed close to and trusted many years after their divorce.
